My Gums Bleed, is it normal?

My gums bleed, is it normal?

We’re long overdue for society, in general, to place greater value on oral health and its part in our systemic health.

🦷 Bleeding gums (Gingivitis) are very common but that doesn’t mean you should ignore them. They’re usually a sign of gum (periodontal) disease.

🪥 A person may notice some blood after brushing their teeth or flossing, which can irritate sensitive gums. The most common reason for gum bleed is plaque or tartar buildup that is caused by improper cleaning of teeth.

Other Causes of bleeding gums – If you don’t have gingivitis, but still suffer from bleeding gums, don’t ignore the problem. Bleeding gums can also be caused by bleeding disorders, leukaemia, Vitamin K deficiency, Iron deficiency, hormonal changes, stress, smoking, misaligned teeth, Vit C deficiency/ scurvy or the use of blood thinners.

Also, the use of a very hard-bristled toothbrush can cause gums to bleed. Hormonal changes during pregnancy also cause gum inflammation and bleeding.

🧛‍♂️ If your gums bleed persistently or if you experience ongoing pain associated with bleeding gums, don’t ignore it at all. When left untreated, bleeding gums lead to more serious oral health problems.

👉🏻 Chronic periodontitis may add to the inflammatory burden of individuals and thus raise [c-reactive protein] levels, which may result in a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Make sure to visit your dentist every 6 months for regular dental check-ups.
